Training from A to Z
The first and most popular license for which we train at ATO Horizon Air Services is the private helicopter pilot license, abbreviated as PPL(H).
It entitles you to pilot a helicopter during the day, as well as to take passengers on a non-commercial flight.
The minimum age of a candidate at the start of training organised by our school is 16 years+.
An additional requirement is to have an aviation medical examination, which takes our candidates one day to complete and is not much different from occupational medicine examinations.
The first stage of the course is a 100-hour theoretical course.
During this course, candidates are taught the theory behind nine subjects essential for understanding helicopter construction, meteorology, navigation, air law, flight rules, and communication. The second stage involves practical training in a Robinson R44 helicopter, which comprises a minimum of 45 hours of flight time with an instructor and partially solo. After completing all required training elements, the candidate can take the theoretical exam for the PPL(H) license, organized by the Civil Aviation Authority in Warsaw.
This exam consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. In the first part, the candidate must pass a nine-subject computer-based exam before the Aviation Examination Board.
Achieving a positive result in this part of the exam entitles the candidate to take the practical part, which is conducted during a flight at our facility in front of an examiner from the Civil Aviation Authority in Warsaw. Successful completion of this exam culminates in the issuance of a PPL(H) helicopter private pilot license.
